The Derinkuyu underground settlement as a climate-adaptation thesis
Abstract
Cappadocia's underground settlements are usually read as defensive works. This study tests an alternative: the settlement as an engineering response to climate variability. Thermal-mass behaviour, ventilation geometry, grain-storage volume, palaeoclimate records and settlement chronology are treated as five separate lines of evidence. The question of absolute dating remains open.
